ERA -Team Karta, Poland

The ERA project was developed by eleven high-school students from Warsaw and śyrardów and by the project coordinator from the House of Historical Meetings and Karta Center. We have been meeting once a month from October 2006 until February 2007 at seminars on Polish Jews’ history, on their lives during World War II, and on political, social, and psychological mechanisms of mass genocide. We have been watching movies, reading historical texts and accounts of people who personally experienced the Nazi terror. We discussed the topics trying to understand the meaning of that historical period for contemporary Poland. At the end of October two female participants and the seminars’ project coordinator carried out interviews with three witnesses who were engaged in various forms of historical resistance movements in Poland in the years between 1939 and 1945.
