HISTORY OF THE ISTORECO
The "Istituto Storico della Resistenza di Reggio Emilia" (Reggio Emilia Historical Institute for the Study of the Resistance) was set up in 1965. The Institute, now called “Istoreco” ("Istituto per la storia della Resistenza e della società contemporanea" – the Institute for the Study of the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Society) is one of a network of 61 similar institutes throughout Italy. Contemporary history is seen as covering the whole of the twentieth century. The Institute is now also involved in memory working, international exchanges and anti-racist initiatives aimed at young people.

"BELLA CIAO"-STUDY TRIPS

Groups of students keen to know more about Fascism and the Italian Resistance have been coming to the Reggio Emilia Istoreico since 1993.
These trips are arranged round a series of visits, meetings and discussions with surviving witnesses, combined with pleasant excursions on foot or bike in the area of Reggio Emilia. Recent trips have dealt with subjects other than those purely concerned with the Resistance, for example "The New Italian Left Post ‘68", "A History of Teaching in Reggio", "Alternative Co-operation and Development", "Globalisation and Protest". On the German side, the trips are organised by Local Authority Departments, Trade Unions, Schools, independent historical institutes and pacifist and anti-Fascist associations.
