DGB-Youth, Germany

The ‘DGB-Jugend’ is the youth organisation of the German Federation of Trade Unions, which affiliates eight trade unions.
Everybody has the opportunity to take part in the work of the trade union. We deal with questions that arise from working life and community, perform seminars, project days, conferences, events and much more. Whenever our arguments are not heard, public relations and actions are called for. In the trade unions and the DGB you can join in at task- and action-groups. In addition to that the ‘DGB-Jugend’ is active in extracurricular youth education.

The ‘DGB-Jugend’ speaks up for the realisation of all individual and collective human rights, for freedom, equality and solidarity. Its ambitions are the abolition of exploitation and economical and social oppression. The ‘DGB-Jugend’ speaks up for the improvement of the living- and working-conditions of young people and for the democratisation of community and economy.

The ‘DGB-Jugend’ puts itself out for the right of education and equal opportunities in the educational system. It demands a fundamental reform of the occupational education system in order to enable young people to get a qualified and future-oriented education. The future of the work, its social and human appropriate arrangement, and a fair, ecologically oriented world economy system are given priority.
The ‘DGB-Jugend’ pushes itself against racism and violence and engages itself for a peaceful, equal and co-existence in solidarity. The ‘DGB-Jugend’ stands up against fascism and armed conflicts and puts itself out for peace, disarmament and understanding among nations.

Trade union youth work is the lobby for, with and by youngsters and young adults. It is the task, to support processes of development and identity of young people by varied choice and to activate them for the representation of their interests and the cooperation in union and community.
